As a owner of BMW E36, I proudly declare that this is not a car, it's lovely love and soulful soul forever!
Nice.
Is my dream beatifull oroginal car 36 and a s54 enjine....
About 6.5-7 secs decent actually
whats the make of the relay
what is the size of those arc8s and the tires? looks good mate
Is it running hot?
every month I'm watching it because some day I hope I will have it :/
Still prefer a S50B32 from a sound perspective, it's deep. S54 sounds too tinny, but none the less this is an awesome engine swop 👌
I bought the newest X4M, but my heart wants an E30 or E36 so bad!
Let’s swap then 😂
My all time favorite car 🚙 E36 m3’s are very underrated but sitting in one now feels like a hit of nostalgia of a time when cars really had character.
These cars are a lot of fun ... Should I part mine out or keep it in one piece and sell it ? Here is my 1998 BMW M3 Estoril Blue 4-door 5-speed manual . I'm retired now and would like to see a younger M3 E36 enthusiast take this car off my hands. It's a good starter platform for an M3 restoration project : ua-cam.com/video/TugVqBcRZwo/v-deo.html
Hi, thanks for the vid. I have a variable speed pump myself (Hayward) which I like to control with Arduino or a Wemos D1 mini or something similar and some relays so I can connect it to home assistant. Just now I was testing how the digital inputs work. I don't have to solder anything as a cable came with the pump. In the manual I can find which color wire is for which speed but not much more than that. I tried to pick a speed by connecting the appropriate color wire with ground but nothing happened. After seeing your video I'm thinking that I probably should not keep the wires permanently connected to ground but only let them touch for about half a second and then it switches on (and when I do it again it switches off). Is that what you did?
Yes, it's just a momentary (1 second) press.
@@TopherHax Thanks for the quick reply. I tried it but for me it didn't make a difference. Seems my pump does work a little different. However I did find what the problem was and now it works! Maybe in the future I can help somebody with a Hayward VSP pump by writing down here what I had to do: - Connect the red wire (run/stop) with the black wire (ground) (check if the cable is connected in the inside of the pump control box, reverse of this video ua-cam.com/video/AxSp75KJ-l8/v-deo.html ) - Manually start the pump by pressing the run/stop button on the pump - Now I can use the speed wires: brown to black for V1, green to black for V2, white to black for V3 (fast blinking leds) - Stop by disconnecting red and black - Start by reconnecting red and black (no manual press required) - I found that after starting again with the wires every time the prime function will run for a few minutes (full speed to blow air bubbles out of the system). You don't want that every time after a programmed stop, so I turned the prime function off in the pump configuration. Now it goes slowly to the RPM you want it to immediatly without priming in between. Only downside is that if you want to blow the bubbles out you have to do it manually by setting it on high speed. It is no problem because most of the time I select a different speed right away anyway. Now I have some hard- and software to build in the winter before next swimming season :) I think I will add control for the poollights and the heatpump aswell while I'm at it. Thanks again.
My dude I have both an E36 M3 (US) and E46 M3 but have always enjoyed the E36 for its nimbleness. The perfect formula would be to swap an S54 and you’ve done it! Who did thee swap? Estimated cost?
Take that Euro E36 M3’s. How many $ to do this conversion? Long time E36 Owner here and plan to do this also. However, my S52 is such a beast and so reliable.
Same thoughts here. I put aside funds for the swap and I'm not entirely sure I want to move frwd. S52 is stout, great torque, sounds great and mr reliable
Owned my 98 M3/4/5 for 12 years. Has been a great car. Starts at -20F and 120F. No major issues just standard maintenance. These engines can easily achieve 300k. However, the word is finally out and prices are climbing fast. Buy one now before it gets to crazy.
beautiful build - what shifter do you have in it? E60 545?
It's a combination of euro E36 linkage, UUC DSSR, and 6spd zhp shift knob.
legend - fantastic work by the way, cars an absolute beast - cant wait to get my E36 build up and running@@TopherHax
what an absolute beast :)
Too much of a show off...who has their front windows rolling up n down so smoothly😅
😂 👍
how hard is the s54 swap to do ??.... honestly
Mechanically it's simple once you have all the right parts. Electrically it can be a bit intimidating, even if you're used to doing wire harness work. You're merging an older analog system with a newer digital (CANbus) based system.
@@TopherHax i build computers and electronics and i dont want to mess with that LOL!! S52 with itbs it is LOL!
I just love everything about this car 😭🥹🔥🔥🔥🔥
love the setup
My dream car xD :/
nice video , with the video layout and i prefer n/a build to get that normal car feeling XD
🎉
So good 👌👌
What exhaus does this car have?
Euro S54 headers, OEM E46 M3 section 1 and 2, ends in a stainless OBX muffler.
@@TopherHaxany drone?
the s54 sounds crazy good i want this car so bad great video
Thanks! Car will be FS on BAT in 2-3 weeks 👍

this is amazing
Do you have the wiring diagram ? Thanks
Isn't slow, its fast and it can be faster than manual
Faster than manual - only when manual driver is an IDIOT
Do you have something else connected to your 2-pole relay besides your pool pump?
What you do for freeze protection?
hi that's all well and good the problem I am having is knowing if the pump is actually running if I need to see or hear the pump running I may as well just use a timer ,does this Sonoff stuff make anything with a feed back that tells me the pump is actually on ? I want to run my pump when I want when I am away from home thanks for reading
I am going to try this with the Sonoff 4CHPRO ($36) and works with external wall switch- this may give ability to have additional 8 button remote (wall switch) RM433R2 ($5.30) inside the house that is wifi to the controllers. Looks like your pump pad switches are 12V? (Are you sending 12V for 0.5sec?) I am trying to get pool/spa light and Valves on the second 4CHPRO. Thank you for your insight into using this automation !
What wag wire did you use? I imagine #14 on the coil side sufficient, the 220 side I would be drawing 19.5 amps. Does #10 wire on 220 side sound right? That’s what google recommends but that seems awfully heavy. 1.65 hp pump 220v 18amps Chlorsync SWG 1amp Hayward solar pool heater controller .8amps
Coil side is #16, could be smaller though since it's less than 1A to hold the coil closed. My 220 side only pulls 8A so I used the original setup's #14. Also, 18A @ 220VAC is 3,960W! Even at 80% efficiency that's like 4.25HP. So, I am guessing that's the max startup/surge current rating, not continuous.
I hope you see this comment. Your solution is the best I’ve seen, but would like a little more detail. Any way to contact you directly?
Sure, I can reply right here which could also help others.
I appreciate that. Any chance you have specific written instructions on the wiring of your setup for those of us who can follow directions but not a pro in electronics or wiring? Of course, a how-to video would be preferred. Talking to people in the pool industry is a waste of time because they only know how to install very expensive pre-packaged equipment.
Can you add any instructions to this? 1. All power off 2. Connect the four-channel relay switch to a power source, such as a wall outlet or circuit breaker. 3. Connect the WiFi switch to the same power source. 4. Connect the wires from the pool pump to the relay switch inputs. 5. Connect the output wires from the relay switch to the WiFi switch inputs. 6. Connect the WiFi switch to your home's WiFi network and enable remote control of the switch through a smartphone app. What am I missing?
Thank you, was worried about put pressure on the card and damaging the pins inside the drone. Sounds silly I know, but its a lot of money ( I am an unpaid carer so money can be tight ) so grateful for this.
That’s a ripper mate.
why do you have to flash the sonoff
Because it wants to connect to sonoffs servers in China to control it. Forget that, I have my own damn server.
S54's and S50's are the best sounding engines BMW made, change my mind.
They're hard to beat, but the S70/2, S85, P60B40, S38, M88/1, and S14 sound just as amazing to me in their own ways. I think nostalgia will be what makes us fanboys of the S50/52/54 engines. As the owner of a Z3 with an M52B28, I have to say it's still one of the loveliest sounding engines I've ever heard in person.
😊👍
👍👍👍👍👍
So easy and so smart ☺️☺️🎉 thank you, really needed that 👍🏽👍🏽
Haha nice trick! Never thought of that. Thanks
Very clever. I haven't seen that idea before. Thumbs up
Absolutely gorgeous build 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
Its a 328i
No way my 328i or 325i autos never moved that fast. This thing moving as fast as an e39 540 auto. Good race right there. Decent driver on a 5 speed 4 door couldn’t pull on my 97 540 auto
Would this relay support a chlorinator as well? I see two unused contacts. Are those inputs or outputs? What are those unused ones for? Are they hot when you power the relay or are they inputs?
That's the other side of the DPDT relay = when not energized it closes on that side, so cannot be used. You might be able to find the equivalent relay but with more poles.
wow thats a clean setup 👍
